Horror Movies Through the Times
What scares and what fell flat in the past years of horror?
Scary movies can be exhilarating and terrifying, but which ones will give you the best scare? Maybe you like the scary feeling you get after watching them or the way you seem to still be thinking about them weeks later, either way it’s that time.
One movie that is good to watch is Paranormal Activity. This is a truly freaky movie without being gory or bloody. The movie follows a young couple being haunted in their home. Weird occurrences begin to happen to them and they try multiple times to understand what is happening and try to stop it. The movie is supposed to lead off the premise that the movie was videos discovered by people after this happened. There are no credits in the beginning or end, making it even more ominous.
Aden Pohodich says, “ what makes paranormal activity so scary is that people believed that it was real and that it could happen in their house.”
Another good movie to watch is The Blair Witch Project. This movie is the kind that is so scary that you will be thinking about it weeks after and still be scared. Although this movie was made in 1999, it still is super creepy. The movie is about a group of film students who go to make a documentary about the Blair Witch. The students go missing and the movie is supposed to be the videos discovered a year after their disappearance. The students begin to get tormented by the Blair Witch in different ways and the movie ends without you knowing the students whereabouts.
Freshman Haley Cordova says that the movie isn’t that scary to her though. “I don’t think it’s the scariest movie I’ve ever seen because the technological advances of modern day has enhanced the graphics of recent horror movie releases,” Cordova said.
Scary movies are good to watch when you get tired of the same boring romantic or action movie. They don’t always have to have happy endings and can be very unpredictable. So if you are looking for something to watch something this Halloween season, Paranormal Activity, The Blair Witch Project, and Get Out are your go to movies. Some other movies that will spook you are The Babadook, The Conjuring, The Ring, and Poltergeist.
