There’s a new movie in town for fans of Indiana Jones and National Treasure. Uncharted came out on February 18, 2022 and starred Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg. Other actors in the movie include Sophia Taylor Ali, Tati Gabrielle, and Antonio Banderas, as well as an appearance from Rudy Pankow.
The movie follows treasurer hunter Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Wahlberg) and Nathan Drake (Holland) as they look for the lost fortune found by Ferdinand Magellan nearly 500 years ago.
The simple heist soon turns into a race to find the treasure before Santiago Moncada (Banderas) does. Uncharted was based on a video game of the same name. In the past, movies based on video games have not done as well, but Uncharted has neared $150 million at the international box office.
From the start, the movie was engaging and had an original storyline. Holland and Wahlberg had good chemistry with dialogue that was quick and witty, making their interactions seem easy and unforced.
Often the problem with movies similar to Uncharted is that they can be predictable, which takes the fun out of watching them. However, Uncharted had unexpected twists and turns that made the movie more exciting. The story was written in such a way that the audience would think that they knew what was going to happen next, but there would be an unseen twist that surprised everyone. This made the story flow nicely without any lags.
One drawback of the film was that with so many different overlapping storylines, some of them were left open-ended. This could be because the two end scenes set it up for there to be a sequel. The end of the movie also felt slightly rushed, and the climax and the resolution ran together.
Lastly, the soundtrack for the film was excellent. The music fit the mood of the scenes and the track that played during the action scenes played on a loop in the audience’s mind even after the movie was over.
Overall, Uncharted was well worth the watch.
