What a first couple weeks in College Football and we have many more to come. The first two weeks of college football consisted of a ton of different big names and big-team headlines. None bigger than the Colorado Buffaloes and coach Deion Sanders. Two big wins over TCU, and Nebraska, really has the college football world buzzing. Coach Deion Sanders took over the program this season and has really got off to a great start. The Buffaloes had a lot of hype going into the season and were questioned over if they could live up to it, and boy did they ever.
In the first game of the season, Colorado had a tough road test at the # 17th ranked team in the country, TCU. They stepped up and delivered the Buffaloes fans with a great game. Star quarterback Sheduer Sanders threw for 510 passing yards, and 4 touchdowns. Sheduer was unbelievable throwing the football for the Buffaloes. Freshman Running Back Dylan Edwards also had a breakout game, going for 159 total yards and 4 total touchdowns. He was electric in the passing game and caught the game-winning touchdown in the 4th quarter.
Standout two-way player Travis Hunter also performed extremely well. He played both offense and defense, at Wide Receiver and CornerBack. He was a beast with 119 receiving yards on 11 catches. Hunter also had a huge diving interception right in front of the goal line that saved a touchdown. The Buffaloes ended up securing a narrow 45-42 victory. After the game, Coach Sanders addressed the doubts surrounding the new management of the team stating in an interview “Do you believe now?” This was a big statement made by Colorado, and they put the world on notice.
After a crazy first week it was on to week 2, and it was time to see if the Buffaloes could back up that week 1 showing. It was their first home game with Deion Sanders at the helm, and it was a sold-out crowd, and a lot of buzz around the stadium.
Different players stepped up in week 2 for Colorado. Starting with QB Sheduer Sanders again throwing for nearly 400 yards and 2 touchdowns. WR Xavier Weaver added 170 yards and a touchdown on 10 catches. Then there was an unusually great performance by Travis Hunter who played both ways again, scoring 3 catches for 73 yards, and 4 tackles on defense. The Colorado defense played a great game holding Nebraska to 14 points in a 36-14 win.
Coach Sanders and the Buffaloes have gotten off to a hot start, but the question now is if they can sustain it. Conference play is coming up and they will have some big-time games that they will be tested in, and we’ll see if they can continue their great start. With the great start to the season and a promising new coach the Buffaloes look like they are on their way to success this season.
