The first ever Kettle Run High School Cougar Kickoff occurred on Aug 20, 2026. This event is new because in the past, many of the activities at the kickoff were held during freshman orientation. This event was a big opportunity for students to walk their schedules, learn about clubs, and explore different sports.

Students and parents had the opportunity to meet teachers, walk schedules and learn more about Kettle Run clubs and organizations. The event ran from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and during that time families were visiting classrooms, asking questions, meeting specific teachers, and getting help finding classes. At 5:15 p.m., students and families went into the commons to view  club tables, sign up for clubs, and look at different sports that Kettle Run has. Students and families also could go to the food trucks outside, including the Bruster’s ice cream cart, which was positioned in the commons. Some of the club tables that were represented included DECA, FFA, FCA, NEHS, NSHS, and BSA.

Kettle Run Principal Amanda Dorr says that she decided to do the Cougar Kickoff because in the past the club tables were part of freshman and new student orientation. She said that  “some new students didn’t know anyone so they might have felt nervous and not come.” Principal Dorr wanted the kickoff to be after school started. Dorr said it should be “a fun positive experience for everyone.” In Principal Dorr’s opinion, the event was successful. She said that some parents who attended without their children, later said their children should come next year because the event was great.
