Spotted lanternflies are highly invasive insects that came to America through international shipment and trade. According to Coleen Andrews in an article for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, spotted lanternflies may have arrived through shipments of materials such as stone that carried their eggs. Andrews states that the insect “poses a major threat to the ecosystem and important regional agricultural economies.”
Because of the damage spotted lanternflies can cause, if you see one, do your part to help protect the environment and kill it.
