With many new coaches and players, some people within the Kettle Run community are wondering if this team can win it all. In many scrimmages, it is obvious that the team showed both determination and glimpses of being great. So far, the team looks good with many solid athletes and many players playing both sides of the ball.

One question that the school has been talking about is depth: if one player goes down, is someone else able to step up? We think that the scrimmages proved that depth is not an issue. Many people point to the scrimmages as a success; however, scrimmages are not a true test until the first game.

Will Kettle Run remain victorious and keep the county title against Liberty? There is only one way to find out, and that is by showing out and packing the “Cage.” Fan involvement is one of the advantages the team feels is necessary to stay successful. So far, we are doing a great job of keeping fans involved and in the stands, especially with just the scrimmages alone.

However, with many rumors going around the school, many people would rather go to a Jiffy Lube Live concert instead of the games, which is very understandable. But one thing to keep in mind is that energy can change the course of a game, so if you have nothing going on, why not go support your friends and peers on the football team?

One question that will be answered during the first game on the 28th will be how explosive the offense is. With an explosive offense, it is so much easier to get the crowd involved, allowing for more energy to keep momentum on the Cougars’ side. The football team wouldn’t want you to come to a game if it wasn’t entertaining.

Winning will always be a priority for the team. So how do they keep that energy? It starts with the hard work that they’ve been putting in during the offseason. Many athletes sacrifice their summer to help their team become the best. They work on their own performance, but also spend time installing plays and competing every day.

After the scrimmages and summer work, it is safe to say that they are ready for what comes this season! To answer the question, “Will Kettle Run be great again?” depends on what you define as great, but yes, success is expected to continue, especially with how the team is gelling together.

It all starts with the season opener against Liberty High School on Friday, August 28, at 7:00 p.m. in Cougar Stadium.
