What drives the teenage brain to follow the latest fashion trends? Social media? Pressure to fit in? “Every year the average person spends about $1,434 on clothes per year, while a teenager spends approximately $2,331 per year” (rosshightimes.com).

We asked students and staff what they think are the most popular clothing items of 2026 at KRHS. David Allen, an 11th grader, pointed to a more relaxed style, saying, “Definitely baggy jeans and plain shirts from Nike.”

Skylar Brown, a 9th grader, agreed that oversized clothing is popular and added a few other trends she has noticed. “Off-the-shoulder tops and baggy sweats are trending too.”

Many students agreed that baggy clothes like jeans and sweatpants are especially in style this year. Ninth grader Tiffany Bernhardt also noticed different trends among both girls and guys. “I see a lot of girls wearing those flowy, ruffled tank tops or tube tops. I see guys wearing those rough-looking sweaters and vintage graphic shirts.”

We also asked office attendants Ms. Donelan, Mrs. Crosland, and Mrs. Schall what they think are the trendiest clothes and for their opinions on current styles. They also noticed the popularity of oversized clothing. “A fashion trend over the last few years is dressing in baggy clothes, girls wearing oversized clothing—it should be clothes that fit,” they said.

They also pointed to accessories and footwear that have made a comeback. “Birkenstock clogs are back in style,” along with “lots of multiple necklaces layered on top of each other.”

Overall, this year’s fashion trends at KRHS seem to focus on comfort, oversized clothing, and styles from the past making a comeback. While trends are always changing, students continue to find new ways to make popular styles their own.
