To Celebrate the 17th anniversary of Avatar: The Last Airbender here is a look into the future of the franchise.

As of February 21, the hit animated show Avatar: The Last Airbender is now 17 years old. The show was created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Brian Konietzko. The show was aired on Nickelodeon from 2005 to 2008. The series follows a young kid known as Aang, who can control the four elements of fire, water, earth, and air, and his friends as they journey to defeat the evil fire nation. The show was a smash hit commercially and critically. It has been called the best animated show of all time by some critics. In 2020 the series saw a large return in popularity because it was added to Netflix’s streaming service. After it was released on the service it was the number one show on Netflix.

In 2018 Netflix announced a live-action adaptation of the beloved animated show. At first, the show was planned to be executively produced by the original creators, Michael Dante DiMartino and Brian Konietzko, But they dropped out of the project 2020 claiming creative differences. In 2021 cast members were released to the public including Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiaweentiio Tarbell as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, and Dallas Liu as Zuko. In November of 2021 more casting choices were revealed along with news that production had begun in Vancouver.

There are also reportedly multiple Avatar video games currently in development. One of these games is a mobile game created by game publisher Square Enix’s new London-based mobile game division. Paramounts Avatar studios is reportedly working on a console RPG and MMORPG set in the avatar universe. Info shows that these games have been in development for a long time. No release dates have been revealed for either game yet.
