Congresspeople Under Investigation for Connections to the January 6th Insurrection

Federal investigators are examining records of communication within members of Congress and the mob who attacked the US Capitol. There is data that shows past contacts with lawmakers, and data that shows communication with alleged rioters between members of congress that indicates their association with the attack. A story from Rolling Stone did not mention that the lawmakers were particularly associated in violent assault, although it was noted that multiple members of Congress coordinated contesting the election results and planned rallies that preceded that attack.

The specific members of Congress were also involved in a pro-Trump activism, which took place around the election as well as the electoral certification that occurred on January 6th. Ali Alexander, who assisted in the organization of the “Wild Protest”, said that Gosar, Brooks, and Biggs helped him come up with certain strategies for the event. “I was the person who came up with the Jan. 6 idea with Congressman Gosar, Congressman Mo Brooks, and Congressman Andy Biggs,” Alexander said. “We four schemed up on putting maximum pressure on Congress while they were voting so that — who we couldn’t lobby — we could change the hearts and the minds of Republicans who were in that body hearing our loud roar from outside.” Rep. Norma Torres mentioned that the members’ association with the attack would violate their oath of office.

Alexander noted that he was in contact with the three Republican members of Congress and that they helped him plan the rally that occurred on January 6th. He said that members of congress’ assistance in planning the rally occurred when they were preparing to certify the electoral votes and cement President-elect Joe Biden’s victory. A CNN report mentioned that Democrats were actively requesting for investigators to review the security footage from the Capitol Police to ascertain whether Congress was associated in giving tours to the coordinators of the Stop the Steal rally and breach preceding the January 6th attack. Representative Alexandria Ocasio Cortez spoke on this situation, saying “This was a terror attack. 138 injured, almost 10 dead. Those responsible remain a danger to our democracy, our country, and human life in the vicinity of our Capitol and beyond.”

Further investigation is ongoing between the three members of Congress’ association with the January 6th insurrection. It was noted that the FBI along with the Justice department did not immediately respond to requests for comments for this. With this being said, the situation is still in continuation for further explanation and details.

Concludingly, the three representatives from the January 6th Insurrection have been identified and proven guilty for their actions. Democrats say that GOP lawmakers implicated within this attack should be expelled from their positions. More investigation is known to still be in progress.
