Do you like to travel? Do you like cheese, water sports, and winter outdoor activities all in one place? If so, then Wausau, Wisconsin is the place for you! Wausau is located in the central part of the state of Wisconsin. It is very rural, but also has some cute small towns. The people there are very friendly, too.
Here’s what you can do in Wausau, Wisconsin:
Water Sports:
Jet skiing is really fun to ride on the lake.
Make sure you ride with life jackets. Wake surfing is also super fun-like me pictured here a few summers ago:). It’s another water sport where you get to ride the waves behind the boat and wake surf.
Most people in Wisconsin who live on a lake, have boats called pontoons. Pontoons are slower-moving flat boats which seats up to 15 persons and allows you to have a nice floating experience down the lake to take in the views and enjoy the day (me pictured driving).

Cheese Curds:
Cheese curds are squeaky cheese particles which fall off during the cheese-making process. Over the years, the curds have been turned into a fun snack that many locals and visitors enjoy. Cheese curds can be prepared in different ways and they can be eaten as is, out of the bag, or fried which makes them soft, warm, and gooey! You can purchase them in Wisconsin from many stores, including Nasonville Dairy, known for their “award winning cheese.”

You can also get cheese curds at Piggly Wiggly. It is a grocery store and you can get other goods and foods from there. This store is not only located in Wisconsin, they are also located in other states. Cheese curds can also be purchased in many other states across the U.S.
Ice shacks and ice activities:
Every winter, the lake freezes over and you can ice fish, ride a snow mobile, and ice skate. There are ice shacks that can keep you warm. Some of the ice shacks are very fancy! For example, they have stoves, snacks, and a hole drilled for fishing.

For fun, many people love to snowmobile. Snowmobiles look a lot like jet skis, but are specifically for the ice. They can go really fast and are fun. Just be sure to bundle up because it’s super cold! If you want a slower sport, then ice skating is also fun. Just be sure that you are skating on very thick ice.
So…do you want to travel to Wausau, Wisconsin?
